The word Accrue is often associated with accounting. In fact, the terms Accrue, Accrued and Accruals are used in finance and accounting all the time. While these words are often considered financial jargon, the true meaning is further reaching.

The Definition

Accrue – means to increase in number or amount over time.
It is most similar to the word accumulate in its use.

You pronounce Accrue phonetically as uh-kroo (with no Gesundheit required).

Accrue gets misspoken and misunderstood as, a crew like the staff of a ship. People ask us to clarify this all the time.

Common Synonyms Include:

Accumulate, Amass, Collect, Build-up, Increase or Growth.

Common Antonyms Include:

Diminish, Decrease, Dissipate, Depreciate and Deteriorate
